In Peru, approximately one hundred women are killed every year by their partners or ex partners. Though this is a much known problem, very little is known about feminicide.
The objective of this study was to assess the causes of feminicide and severe violence with high risk of feminicide (multilevel modeling) and to estimate the impact of this latter form of violence (propensity score matching). We used the ENDES 2011-2015 (N=202,509) and administrative data of feminicides built by the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations 2011-2015 (N=825). Also, an instrument to measure danger of severe violence was adapted.
The causes were related to systems of domination and its manifestations in relationships, and also related to the presence (absence) of certain state offices and social disadvantage at district level. Severe violence with high risk of feminicide leads to depression and more alcohol and tobacco consumption in victims. The effects also reach their children (more recent episodes of diarrhea, blood in stools, fever and cough).
